My name is Herminsul Cobo, I am 54 years old and I have been a shoemaker since I was 9 years old.
Nowadays, shoes mean a lot to me. I think of shoemaking as a very treasured art, which supports the lives of many people. A shoe is proof of the consciousness and heart that the shoemaker puts onto making it; a good shoe shows the love that the shoemaker has for his profession.
When I make shoes for By Maria, I put all my heart into making those shoes, because By Maria is the best thing that has happened to me. I have never admired so much a company, or someone, I have worked for. Here one finds humanity, fulfillment, and seriousness. By Maria makes me feel safe and offers the patience I need to improve every day. It is also the only place where I feel that my work is being appreciated, nowhere else have I had this feeling. Ever since I’ve been a part of this project, I feel calmer and more relaxed, because there is no work-related harassment and I can be sure I will be paid. Furthermore, they not only value my work, but also myself as a person, and they understand my needs.
